Why I Quit my Job to Start a Business

I Quit my job to start a business. Here's what I learned

Twelve years ago, I made a life-changing decision—I walked away from the corporate grind to seek freedom.

What followed was a journey full of challenges, mistakes, and valuable lessons.

Today, I’m sharing that story with you so you can learn from my experiences and carve your own path.

It all started on December 23, 2012.

After 15 years of climbing the corporate ladder, with a CPA and an MBA, I realized that despite all the success, something was missing.

My priorities had shifted. I was no longer passionate about building excel models as an analyst.

I didn't want to further a corporate agenda I didn't agree with.

Instead, I wanted to help small business owners make a real impact.

This is my story and here's what I learned along the way.

  • Redefining Success: I discovered that success meant something different to me than the conventional corporate ladder climb.

  • Evolving Values: I recognized that it's okay for goals and priorities to change as new information comes to light.

  • The Power of Journaling: I found clarity and self-awareness through consistent journaling, which later sparked my passion for writing.

  • Reassessing Priorities: I learned to question whether I was living the life I wanted or simply playing a role in someone else's script.

  • Embracing Discomfort: Stepping out of my comfort zone opened up a world of opportunities.

  • Ongoing Challenges: Building and maintaining a business comes with evolving problems, even as you scale.

  • Time is Precious: I now emphasized the importance of making every moment count in our limited time.

My story is a reminder that it's never too late to change course.

I encourage you all to live consciously, design our own futures, and make every moment count in this fleeting life.

Are you ready to write your own freedom story?

Ciao for now,

Ash

P.S. My team and I put a lot of effort into creating this video. if you think someone else might benefit from it, please do share it with them.

Ash Roy has spent over 15 years working in the corporate world as a financial and strategic analyst and advisor to large multinational banks and telecommunications companies. He suffered through a CPA in 1997 and completed it despite not liking it at all because he believed it was a valuable skill to have. He sacrificed his personality in the process. In 2004 he finished his MBA (Masters In Business Administration) from the Australian Graduate School of Management and loved it! He scored a distinction (average) and got his personality back too!
