The Truth About Work-Life Balance – Can You Really Have It All?

Do you feel like you're constantly juggling too many things?

I've got good news.

According to Pareto efficiency theory, about 80% of what you're doing only yields about 20% of your results.

More importantly 20% of your efforts yield 80% of your results.

You could (and probably should) stop doing most of what you do and focus on the stuff that makes the biggest impact.

This is easier said than done, but it's the only way I know to strike some balance between "work" and "life".

The Reality Check: Balance Looks Different for Everyone

I don't think it's possible to strike a perfect 50/50 split between work and life (they're far too intertwined).

I think the answer lies in finding alignment between the two.

Instead of chasing a mythical “perfect balance,” focus on what truly helps you thrive.

Here’s how:

1. Set Clear Boundaries

It’s easy to let work bleed into personal life (hello, late-night emails). But protecting your personal time is essential.

Action Steps:

  • Turn off notifications after work hours.

  • Set non-negotiable personal time for yourself and stick to it (this is easier said than done but it needs to happen).

2. Prioritize What Matters

Some tasks drain your energy, while others fuel your growth and happiness. Focus on the latter.

Action Steps:

  • Identify your top three priorities each week and focus on accomplishing those FIRST.

  • Actively avoid activities and obligations that don’t align with your goals.

3. Prioritise self-care and don't wear burnout as a badge of honour

Burnout isn’t a badge of honor. If you’re running on empty, neither work nor life will feel fulfilling.

Action Steps:

  • Prioritize sleep, movement, and time for hobbies.

  • Schedule downtime just as you would an important meeting.

Final Thoughts

Work-life balance isn’t about having it all—it’s about having what matters most to you.

When you focus on alignment rather than perfection, you’ll find more fulfillment, less guilt, and a rhythm that truly works for you.

What does balance look like for you? Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
