A month ago, I had a lightbulb moment.

 

I realized that the difference between content that's quickly forgotten, and content that captures hearts and minds comes down to one thing.

Storytelling.

 

I didn’t take it seriously at first.

 

I thought storytelling was for authors, filmmakers, and maybe TEDx speakers.

 

What did it have to do with marketing or YouTube?

 

But as I journaled about it, I realised that the brands that stood apart were good at storytelling.

 

In 1994, Steve Jobs said, the most powerful person in the world is the storyteller.

 

So I’m on a mission to share what I’ve learned—because I think this is a game-changer for business owners.

Why Storytelling Works Like Magic?

 

You don't need fancy equipment or complicated setups. 

 

You need to create an emotional connection.

 

Stories work because they:

  • Build Trust: People trust brands that share authentic, relatable experiences.
  • It's build into our DNA: Storytelling is core to how our species survived and thrived over millennia. (More on this another day)
  • Inspire Action: A good story moves people. Whether it’s subscribing to your channel or buying your product, emotions drive decisions.


Let’s Break It Down: How to Use Storytelling

 

Storytelling doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s how to start incorporating it into your content:

 

Step 1: Start With Your Why

What’s your story? Why do you do what you do? Share the values, challenges, and inspiration behind your journey.

Step 2: Take Your Audience on a Journey

Every story has three parts:

  • The Hook: Grab attention in the first 10–15 seconds. Tease what’s coming.
  • The Conflict: Show the problem or challenge. This is where emotion happens.
  • The Resolution: Wrap it up with a solution, lesson, or transformation.

Step 3: Use Stories in All Your Content

  • YouTube Videos: Start with a powerful hook, tell a story in your main content, and end with a call to action (CTA).
  • Social Media: Share micro-stories on Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter that connect with your followers.
  • Advertising: Frame your product or service as the resolution to a customer’s problem.

Consistency + Stories = Loyalty

Here’s the thing about storytelling: It works best when it’s consistent. The more you share authentic, value-driven stories, the more your audience will stick around.

  • Set a Schedule: Post regularly. Whether it’s weekly or biweekly, stick to a rhythm.
  • Engage With Your Audience: Ask for their input and respond to comments. A loyal community is built through connection.
  • Experiment: Mix storytelling with other formats and see what resonates.

Keep It Simple, Start Small

Storytelling can feel overwhelming at first, but it doesn’t have to be. Start with the moments that matter most to you and your audience.
